Everyone’s Beautiful: BC community pledges to stamp out bullying

I will treat everyone equally; I will stand up for others always; and I will stop bullying others. These are just some of the promises Vancouverites made last weekend in support of the Imagine…no bullying pledge campaign.

Community members penned heartfelt messages onto brightly coloured post-it notes and stuck them to a pledge wall at the Kitsilano Community Centre at the all-day event on Saturday. Local authorities, political representatives and other honoured guests joined in at 2pm, adding their own pledges to the wall before Red Cross Youth Facilitators spoke to the crowd about the impact Red Cross anti-bullying work has had within the community and in their own lives.

Davina Ma, Education Coordinator with the Canadian Red Cross RespectED Violence and Abuse Prevention program, says organizers really wanted to encourage all community members to make a pledge to help stop and prevent bullying. “It was impressive to see so much support from both adults and youth out there. It is clear that communities are willing and motivated to use their power for the positive to help create healthy environments for everyone,” she says.

The pledge campaign capped off a week of Red Cross bullying prevention activities and coincided with Bullying Awareness Week.
