Canadian Red Cross brought its third load of supplies to help families in Attawapiskat this morning. Thanks to generous donations from Canadians the Red Cross is able to procure, transport and distribute the exact supplies needed to help people stay warm and safe through the winter.

Supplies in today’s shipment include heaters, wash basins, floor rugs, first aid kits, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors. Fire safety equipment is especially important in this community because many families have wood burning stoves in their homes.

Already the Canadian Red Cross has distributed 300 sleeping bags, heaters and $20,000 worth of durable winter clothing. More supplies, such as generators and materials to help improve insulation in homes will be sent this week.

Once the supplies arrive in Attawapiskat, Canadian Red Cross volunteers deliver them to those families, identified by the local Chief and band, as the most vulnerable in the community.

Working with the Chief and government officials, the Red Cross is committed to bringing short-term relief to the community.

  4. Hello everyone. I have started my own initiative, kind of a personal thing perhaps, but is meant in a “Good” way. The intent is to provide ONE building for those most vulnerable.
If enough folks help or spread the word, maybe it will happen.

Its gotta start somewhere, and hoping that perhaps someone else in another town or city may try the same thing. One building at at time. ONe reserve at a time. ONe person at a time. thanks to the red cross for all the help, ensuring that EVERYONE has food warm clothing and hopefully mercury free water to drink.

sorry if what I write offends some, but dont let make you forget there are babies and children in need, and Elders. Its not a time to try and point fingers Im thinking. Its time to do something and thats what Im doing and need help with.
