A group of Meals on Wheels clients in Mississauga had lunch served to them today by a new volunteer with a familiar face: Mayor Hazel McCallion.
She was learning first-hand what it’s like to be a Canadian Red Cross Meals on Wheels volunteer. McCallion, along with mayors from several other Ontario communities, are participating in an initiative this week called Mayors for Meals to help raise awareness about this important program in the community.
And like McCallion, the rest of the mayors aren’t just standing by and observing. They are jumping right in and helping our volunteers to pack up meals and deliver them – some right to the client’s door!
Our Meals on Wheels programs wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for our volunteers. Last year, volunteers delivered 289,173 meals in Ontario.
